“LEARN TO RUN" PROGRAM - SPONSORED BY NEW BALANCE

Next Session Starts June 22, 2013

Run/Walk Program on Saturday’s at 9am

Have you always wanted to run or walk a 5k but didn't know how to begin training? Maybe you are nervous or don't want to do it alone? Maybe you have had a hard time sticking to a training program in the past. If you answered "Yes" to any (or all!) of the above, this is the program for you.  In just 10 weeks, you'll go from the couch to crossing the finish line.  Goal race is the Old Wethersfield 5k on August 25.

No Boundaries is a beginner 5K training program designed for people who don't run or have recently started running as well as those who have a hard time sticking to a running program or are unsure what to do. We use run/walk intervals (“The Galloway Method”) and slowly ramp-up the time spent running and distance covered until you can complete a full 5k (3.1 miles).  We will also teach you the four key steps of Good Form Running which is a program developed by Olympian Grant Robison & New Balance to help you run more efficiently and reduce the chance for injury.

Our goal for this 10-week program is to introduce you to the lifetime fitness activities of running/walking and encourage you to live a healthier lifestyle in a fun and supportive environment – as well as conquer a local 5k race (3.1 miles).  Along the way we’ll provide you with motivation to keep you moving, guidance and advice, DISCOUNTS (!!), weekly group training runs or walks, and educational clinics on topics such as proper nutrition, choosing the right gear, and avoiding injury. Plus, you’ll have the camaraderie of others just like you!

Practices usually last 30-60 min and are led by experienced coaches – many of whom are graduates of this program so they know exactly what it feels like to be in the program. You do not need to attend every practice, but if you attend a minimum of 7 practices, you will earn a sweet New Balance running jacket in addition to your NoBo Team Tee that you’ll wear on graduation day.

This program will feature 3 different training groups: Walkers, Beginning Runners/Couch Potatoes and Intermediate Runners looking to improve their 5k time.  We will have a separate program for those training for a 10 k.

The Beginner Program is designed for people who don't run, those who have a hard time sticking to a running program or are unsure what to do.  We use run/walk intervals and slowly ramp-up the time spent running and distance covered until you can complete a full 5k (3.1 miles).  Our Advanced Program is designed to help you run faster and more comfortably including introducing speed work and oh-so-fun hill repeats!

Both groups will learn proper form using New Balance's Good Form Running Program principles and a runner-specific dynamic warm-up that together will help you run more efficiently, decrease your chance for injury...and enjoy life on the run!

Registration is $95 (this does NOT include the race entry fee). All participants will get a cool technical running shirt and first-time participants who complete at least half the practices will earn themselves a sweet running jacket courtesy of New Balance.

No one is too old or too slow for this program so be courageous and join us!

Signing-up is the hardest part - but if you do that, we will be with you the rest of the way...and even make it FUN!   Sign up online or in store.
